RSS feed is a fast way to inform your blog reader when a new post of yours published. Number of subscriber could affect the strength and popularity of your blog. Getting large number of subscriber is always the main concern of a blogger. One of the solution is to install WP Greet Box, a message box appeared right before the post to greet your visitors. Your visitors may come from different sources such as Google Search, Digger, Stumbleupon, Twitter and etc. WP Greet Box prepare a golden opportunity for your visitors to subscribe to your RSS feed.

Features:

1.Show a different greeting message to your visitor depending on the referrer URL. You can add/edit/delete/disable these greeting messages as you choose.

2. Clickable icon in greeting messages with target=_blank option.

3. Ability to auto-insert greeting message to the top or bottom of the post.

4. Ability to detect the visitor’s search keywords from major search engines and automatically display related posts under or above the greeting message.

5. ………………………….

Much more useful information could be found in http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-greet-box/.

Today, i would like to introduce a useful wordpress plugin named Digg Digg. Digg Digg is actually an all-in-one social vote/share generator. Digg Digg supports Tweetmeme, Facebook, Google Buzz, Yahoo Buzz, Digg, Stumbleupon, Delicious, Polladium, Reddit and Comments.

Digg Digg have special feature which make social vote/share widget “hanging” beside the post instead of embedded within post. This feature is called Ajax left float.

Ajax left float: This will make the buttons wrap by a div block on the left side of the post, scroll down as the people read the post, A Mashable.com shared buttons scrolling effect cloned.

After install Digg Digg Wordpress Plugin, go to Setting—> Digg Digg.

By trial and error, you should get your Social Vote/Share Widget right in the position you preferred.

Today is 1 January 2010, a new start of a year. But thing should be continue after a very “high” Count Down yesterday night. So, wordpress plugin tutorial comes into place again with today Yet Another Related Posts Plugin. I would say that a quality blog must have at least 100+ post within, so the problem is how people exposed to the older posts. You probably need to “next” some many times to get what you want or if you are lucky you may find a search engine in the blog, but this is quite annoying. The only way to solve it is to put related post just below your latest post.

Yet Another Realted Post Plugin is designed for this purpose, and yet it use up little space in your post than you thought. It’s advised to have this plugin installed in your blog as it function as a “additional source” to your blog reader. Though my experience, reader prefer to search more information from the same blog rather than keep visiting different blog with the same content. It’s actually saving a lot of time. You need not wait for the page to load, for some blog, the loading time is extremely slow.

This plugin also work as a summary of your blog ,providing extra choice for your blog reader, making them stick to your blog for even longer. Many of the giant blog have this plugin (or similar plugin) installed, no doubt it’s a very useful plugin in increasing your pageview. One person say thousand words is less powerful than thousand people saying the same word.

Key features:

  1. An advanced and versatile algorithm: Using a customizable algorithm considering post titles, content, tags, and categories, YARPP calculates a “match score” for each pair of posts on your blog. You choose the threshold limit for relevance and you get more related posts if there are more related posts and less if there are less.
  2. Templating: New in 3.0! The YARPP templating system puts you in charge of how your posts are displayed.
  3. Caching: Improved in 3.1! YARPP organically caches the related posts data as your site is visited, greatly improving performance.
  4. Related posts in RSS feeds: Display related posts in your RSS and Atom feeds with custom display options.
  5. Disallowing certain tags or categories: You can choose certain tags or categories as disallowed, meaning any page or post with such tags or categories will not be served up by the plugin.
  6. Related posts and pages: Puts you in control of pulling up related posts, pages, or both.
