McAfee had release a false positive update this Wednesday that makes computer which running Windows XP to reboot without any reason. If you are Windows 7 users, then your computer should not have the same problem as Windows XP users.

This is the several step to recover your computer as outlined by McAfee company:

• 1. If your PC is automatically shutting down, you can abort the shutdown process by clicking on the Start button, then clicking on Run and then type “cmd” (without quotation marks) and hitting Enter to open a command prompt.
• 2. This should open up a command prompt window and in this window, type in “shutdown -a” (without quotation marks). This should stop any shutdown command.
• 3. Next, click on Start–>Programs–>McAfee and then go to the VirusScan Console.
• 4. Right-click on “Access Protection” and then select disable.

Recovery procedure using DAT 5959

• Download the 5959 DAT file (5959xdat.exe) on a working computer and copy it to a removable media device such as a CD or USB stick. {5959xdat.exe}
• Start the affected computer in Safe Mode with networking enabled.
• Copy 5959xdat.exe to the computer, then double-click it to update the VSE DAT files.
• Launch Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32.
• If svchost.exe exists in this folder and is not a 0 byte file, continue to Step 8.
• If svchost.exe has been deleted (or is a 0 byte file),  launch the VirusScan Console (Click Start, Programs, McAfee, VirusScan Console).
  If you are unable to launch the VirusScan Console, click Start, Run, type the command below (including quotes) and click OK:
  “C:\program files\mcafee\virusscan enterprise\mcconsol.exe” /standalone
• Double-click Quarantine Manager Policy, then click the Manager tab.
• Right-click the detection and select Restore.
• Restart the computer normally.

If you are unable to restore svchost.exe from Quarantine or if svchost.exe is 0 bytes:

• On the affected system, copy svchost.exe from C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe or if not present C:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache\svchost.exe to c:\WINDOWS\system32.
  If you are unable to use the copy and paste functions in Windows, click Start, Run, type CMD, then click OK. At the command prompt, type the command below and press ENTER:
  copy from C:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe to c:\WINDOWS\system32
  NOTE: Change the from path to match the location where svchost.exe exists on your system.
